Today’s Protective Style – Side Eye Bun

I needed a quick and simple protective style and this is what I came up with this morning! I call it my Side Eye Bun! This style has been been floating around for awhile and I decided to put my spin on it. I pulled all my hair into a front ponytail, spread my hair from the center outward, then I loosely rolled my hair under to the side and pinned as I tucked all the loose hair under to form a bun. I likey! Let me know what you think.

My New FitBit One

My goal is to START back exercising at least four times a week and I want to effectively track my activity level and calories burned.  After doing a little research I decided on the FitBit One, a wireless physical activity and sleep tracker that comes with a free online account.

This great little gadget tracks my steps taken, distance traveled, calories  burned and stairs climbed throughout each day.  And then it tracks the number of hours I slept, times woken up and sleep quality during the night.

The free online account is automatically updated and provides all tracked levels of activity in one easy to read place, along with graphs and badges that help me make and reach my daily activity goals.

I replaced my heart rate monitor and watch with the fitbit because it’s small enough to be discreetly worn under my clothes all day, so now I’m able to keep up with my daily physical activity levels and goals met.

So far, the Fitbit has been worth every dime that I paid for it.  Let me know if you’ve purchased a Fitbit and what you think  about it!

My Protective Style for the Week!

Another simple, protective style for the week.   After washing my hair, I parted my wet hair down the middle and added two, two-strand flat twists on both sides, for a total of four twists.  I twist my hair so much easier when it’s wet and there’s a lot less chance of breakage because there’s a lot of slip!  I pulled the back into a low pony tail and made a bun with two twists.  Very quick, simple and protective.  I will re-moisturize on Wednesday or Thursday so that the style will last the full week.

My Lipstick of the Day Wet n Wild Mocha-Licious

I wanted to try something a little different and decided to purchase Wet n Wild Mocha-licious Lipstick.  The lipstick is a matte mocha brown and glided on like cream. I think is a hit!

Wet n Wild has several beautiful lipstick colors that I would like to add to my collection, and for $1.99 I won’t break the bank.  The colors are well pigmented and have great staying power.

I see a lipstick haul in my future.  Let me know what you think about the color!

I’m Reading “The Book Thief” with WhoIsSugar.com

I’m a lover of books.  It’s true, I have books all over my house, there’s a bookshelf tucked into my closet, a stuffed one in the den and another one in my bedroom.   So needless to say, like most book lovers, I’m always in the middle of reading one book or another.  And when I heard Sugar, from YouTube and WhoIsSugar.com was starting an online book club, I was too excited to join her and other book lovers, to read and discuss exciting books.

The first book chosen for the book club is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.   I rushed out and picked the book up from the library and couldn’t wait to get started.   For me, the book started a little slow and I believe that’s because I wasn’t familiar with reading this type of book, but I quickly got use to the writing style and language and began enjoying the book.  The book’s setting is in Germany during World War II and follows a young girl, Liesel Meminger’s life during the trying time of war.

If you are interesting in joining the book club, please visit WhoIsSugar.com and click the link for the book forum.  You will have to sign up with your email to be able to post in the book forum.  Please let me know if you decide to join!  It should be FUN!!!

My Protective Style for the Week

I am on a natural hair growth journey for 2013, so retaining as much hair as possible is really important to me.   Wearing protective styles has been helping me retain the hair that I’ve been growing thus far but I’m taking it one step further.  I’m starting to wear  protective styles that I can style with little manipulation and that I can wear at least a week.

This week I settled on this simple flat two-strand twist style with a bun a each side.  This style meets my needs perfectly, it’s simple, quick to do, protects my ends and doesn’t stress out my edges or nape hairs.

This style was really simple to create.  First, I used the L.O.C. Method to moisturize my hair and seal the moisture, twisted a two-strand flat twist on both sides, from the front to right above my ears, I then placed a big two-strand twist on each side in the back.  Twisted the two ends together on each side and rolled them around to make a bun. Very quick and simple.  To preserve the style and make it last until Friday, I will wrap my hair with a satin scarf before bed.  If need be, I’ll spritz with a fine mist of water and conditioner before I wrap my hair with the satin scarf.

Coupon Savings at Walgreens and CVS

I started couponing awhile ago but then stopped because I jumped in feet first and was buying items that I really didn’t need.  I was buying  unneeded items simply because I had coupons for them.  But I have to admit that using coupons provide a great way for me to save money on products that I typically use and need.  So, I decided to start back couponing but this time, I made a promise to myself that I would only buy items that I needed and would use and I would leave the other good deals in the store for another couponing sister.

I started back couponing today, 2/11/13 and these are pics from my coupon hauls that I made at Walgreens and CVS.
My Walgreens haul. Cost me out of pocket $4.49. I purchased Dawn dish detergent, 2 Fergie nail polishes, double stuff Oreos, 2 chloraseptic sprays, allergy pills and a pocket size dial lotion for the hubby!

My CVS Haul.  I made three separate transactions spending out of pocket $7.88 and saved $43.81. I bought 2 bags of Halls cough drops, a wide tooth comb, bobby pins, rubber bands, 6 pack Irish spring, Irish spring body wash, soft soap body wash, 2 crest toothpastes, 1 Colgate toothpaste, poise, birthday card for my friend and a V day card for the hubby!

I think I did pretty good today! Let me know what you think!

Twist with a BANG!!

I call this protective style a Twist with a BANG!! because it truly pops and catches your attention.  This is a super simple style to recreate but takes some preparation to achieve the textured bang look!  Check out the hairstyle tutorial at the end of this post and let me know what you think!

Listening to Inspired by the Bible Experience

20130122-154453.jpg

I’ve just started listening to Inspired by The Bible Experience and I was totally blown away! The famous narrators and the dramatic presentation are phenomenal! So far, I’ve listened to the creation of the earth, moon and stars, the formation of the seas and the beginning of the human race. Only in Genesis but I can’t wait to listen to more. The audio book is on cd’s so I can only listen while I’m at work or in the car, which is a bummer.

But I am so looking forward to listening to the cd’s as soon as I get back in my car.   I’ll let you know how it goes as I listen to more!
